What Is DVC?
You don’t have to own anything to stay in a DVC villa. Here’s how the whole system works.
Disney Vacation Club (DVC) is where individuals own a portion of a DVC resort. When someone purchases DVC, they purchase a certain amount of “vacation points” that they can use at their DVC home resort on a yearly basis. Owners have priority for reservations and can book at their home resort 11 months from the date of travel, and at all other DVC resorts at 7 months out.
Each resort and room type costs a different number of points per night. At the low end, a studio at Old Key West in September can be as few as 9 points per night. At the high end, a 3 Bedroom Grand Villa at the Grand Floridian over Christmas runs 195 points per night. As owners they have flexibility – they get points rather than a fixed week, which is why they can rent those points to you.
Do I Have to Own a Timeshare to Use DVC?
No! You can rent from an owner without ever buying DVC points. Owners don’t use their points for a variety of reasons and rent them out to others. This is completely allowed by Disney and is how renting DVC works. You get all the same deluxe hotel perks as an owner – including Early Park Entry and Evening Extra Hours at Walt Disney World.
All DVC resorts at Disney parks qualify as deluxe hotels. This means that even as a renter, you get Early Park Entry (30 minutes before the park opens) and Extended Evening Hours a couple of times a week – perks that non-DVC hotel guests do not receive.

How to Calculate the Cost of Your Stay
Use these two formulas to figure out exactly how many points you need and what your trip will cost.
Formula 1 – How Many Points You Need
Look up the room cost in points per night on Disney’s DVC point charts, then multiply by your number of nights. That’s how many points you need to rent.
Formula 2 – Total Trip Cost in Dollars
Multiply your total points needed by the per-point rental price. This gives you the full cost of your stay through DVC.
We have done all the math for you on our pricing calendar at pixiepointgals.com – you can look up your exact dates, resort, and room type and see the cost in seconds without doing any math yourself.
How Much to Budget
Price per point varies depending on where and how you rent. Here’s what to expect from each source.
| Source | Price Per Point | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pixie Point Gals | $21-$23/pt | Depends on months out and resort. Full transparent pricing at pixiepointgals.com. Codes as travel for credit card points. |
| Facebook Groups / Direct | $19-$32+/pt | Aulani: $23-$25/pt. Grand Californian: $23+ (sometimes up to $25). Last minute may be cheaper from individual owners. |
| eBay / Redweek | Varies | Usually confirmed reservations. Protected by the platform. Does NOT code as travel for credit card purposes. |
When Should You Look to Rent?
For the best selection – especially for specific room types, high-demand resorts, or larger groups needing more points – reach out at 11.5 months before your travel date. This is when home resort owners can first book and availability is at its peak.
Between 8-11 months out is also good timing. At this window, only owners from that specific resort can book, so availability is still strong for popular resorts.
If you are flexible with dates and can be spontaneous, confirmed reservations and distressed points (points close to expiration) often come at a lower price and can be a great deal.
Renting from pixiepointgals.com codes as a travel purchase on your credit card. That means you can use travel credit card points to erase the entire cost of your stay. With a Capital One Venture or Venture X, the math is simple: 100 points = $1.00. A $1,000 stay would need 100,000 points to erase.

A few key terms will help you understand how the process works and ask the right questions.
3 Ways to Rent DVC Points
The great thing about DVC is that owners can rent their points to anyone. Here are the three main routes.
- Protected process for both sides
- Codes as travel for credit card points
- Real-time availability lookup
- Contract signed before payment
- Confirmation # provided
- Best for first-time renters
- Can find competitive prices
- Renter vets owner directly
- PayPal / Venmo payment
- Some risk – requires due diligence
- Good for experienced renters
- May code as travel on credit card
- Usually confirmed reservations already made
- Platform provides some buyer protection
- Does NOT code as travel for credit card purposes
- Cash payment only – no points erasure
- Follow same owner-vetting steps as Facebook
Renting from Pixie Point Gals – Step by Step
We have owners at various resorts and are here to make the process as simple as possible. We accept credit card payments that code as travel.
- Fill Out a Rental Reservation Request Form We can look up in real time what is available at all DVC resorts. We need to know your dates (or flexible date range), the room size you are interested in, and which resorts appeal to you.
- We Match You with an Owner We find an owner with the right points and text you your options with pricing.
- Pick Your Resort and Provide Guest Info Once you choose a resort, we collect all guest information needed to book the room. All guests – including infants – must be listed on the reservation.
- We Send a Screenshot with Confirmation Number You receive a screenshot of the reservation with the Disney confirmation number so you can verify it yourself.
- Link to Your Disney App We walk you through linking the reservation to your My Disney Experience app (WDW), Disneyland app, or Aulani app to confirm everything is valid.
- Sign a Contract and Pay Once the reservation is linked and confirmed, you sign a rental contract and pay within 24 hours.
For every person staying in the room we need: full name, age of any children under 18 at check-in, home address, email, and phone number. Disney is strict about occupancy – all guests including infants must be listed to receive deluxe hotel perks like Early Entry and Evening Extra Hours.
Renting via Facebook Groups – Step by Step
Facebook groups are a popular peer-to-peer option, but require more homework on your part. Here’s how to do it right.
- Join the Right Groups There are several active DVC rental groups. Search for DVC rental groups for WDW and for Disneyland/Aulani specifically.
- Post or Respond You can either respond to an owner posting available points, or post your own request. Be specific but stay flexible on dates and resorts if possible. Example post: “Looking for Beach Club for January 2026. Flexible on dates – hoping for a 2 bedroom for 5 nights.”
- DM the Owner and Ask Questions Use the vetting checklist in Section 11 of this guide to verify the owner is legitimate before proceeding.
- Get the Reservation Made in Your Name Have the owner put your name first on the reservation and confirm your email is correct. You can also request a three-way call with DVC member services if you want additional confirmation.
- Verify Before Paying Make sure you receive a confirmation email from Disney directly. Load the reservation number into your My Disney Experience app to verify it shows your name, correct dates, and room type. Do not send payment until you have verified the reservation is real and valid.
- Send Payment Most owners accept PayPal or Venmo. It is extremely difficult (close to impossible) to forge a reservation inside the My Disney Experience app, so a confirmed loaded reservation is a very strong indicator of legitimacy.
There is always a small percentage of risk when renting direct because the owner controls the reservation all the way up to check-in. If you have done your homework, are working with an experienced reputable owner, and have a valid confirmed reservation number loaded into your Disney app – 99.9% of the time you will have a smooth check-in and a wonderful stay.
Renting via eBay / Redweek
Both are valid ways to rent DVC. The process is similar to Facebook but listings are more likely to be confirmed reservations.
eBay and Redweek offer some protection because you are transacting through their platform and your credit card adds an extra layer of security. However, keep in mind these purchases will NOT code as travel on your credit card, so you cannot use travel points to erase the cost.
- Search the Platform On eBay, search “DVC” and “Disney Vacation Club” in the search bar to find available points and confirmed reservations.
- Find What You Are Looking For Browse listings for the resort, room type, and dates you want.
- Bid or Buy Place a bid or use Buy It Now on eBay. On Redweek, follow their listing process.
- Vet the Owner Once the owner contacts you, use the same vetting checklist from Section 11 to verify their legitimacy before finalizing.
eBay purchases will not erase with travel credit card points, so you would need to pay cash for the reservation. Factor this into your cost comparison when deciding which rental route makes the most financial sense for you.

How to Vet an Owner When Renting Direct
When renting from a Facebook group or direct from an owner, a little due diligence goes a long way. Scams are rare but they do happen.
First rule: if it is too good to be true, go with your gut. It probably is. We talked with DVC Facebook group moderators and compiled their advice alongside our own rental experience.
Questions to Ask Every Owner
- Where do they own? If they own in Florida or Hawaii, you can look up their DVC ownership in public county records to verify. (Orange County, FL for WDW; Hawaii for Aulani)
- What was the last DVC resort they traveled to? A real owner will have a quick, specific answer.
- Get their phone number or schedule a FaceTime call. Real owners are happy to verify themselves.
- Ask other members of the Facebook group to reference-check the owner using the group search function.
- What is their use year? Use years are months (January, February, etc.). If they answer with a year like “2019” – walk away immediately. This is the easiest way to spot a scammer.
- Are their dues paid in full? Annual dues are paid monthly or yearly. An owner behind on dues could have their reservation canceled.
- Ask if they are willing to accept a personal check mailed via US mail. Most will say no, but it signals you know the rules – and mail fraud carries much higher legal penalties than digital fraud.
- Ask what happens if you need to cancel 30/60/90 days before check-in due to an emergency. A good owner will have a clear answer.
- Ask for a backup contact (email and phone) in case they are unreachable closer to your trip.
- If the Zelle/Venmo/PayPal name does not match their stated name, ask why and re-verify before sending any money.
Do Your Research
- Review their Facebook profile for Disney travel photos. Real DVC owners are almost always avid Disney fans with photos from parks and resorts.
- If the owner provides a rental contract, review it carefully and do not send money until it is signed.
- Be cautious with foreign owners – money sent overseas is nearly impossible to recover if something goes wrong.
- Always load the reservation into your My Disney Experience app before sending any payment. The app connects directly to Disney’s reservation system – a valid reservation showing your name and dates is extremely strong verification.
If any of this feels like too much homework, renting through a broker like Pixie Point Gals eliminates all of it. We handle the owner relationship, the booking, the verification, and the contract – so you can focus on planning your vacation.
