Why We Love the Cabins
A home away from home tucked into the pine woods of Fort Wilderness — the perfect mix of nature, nostalgia, and Disney magic.
The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground are unlike any other DVC stay. Each cabin sits on its own wooded plot with a covered porch, picnic table, and parking pad — giving your family the privacy of a vacation home with the convenience of being on Disney property. The cabins reopened in 2024 as part of Disney Vacation Club, fully refreshed inside with a modern lodge feel while keeping the rustic charm Fort Wilderness is known for.
We love that the cabins sleep six, have a full kitchen, and put you walking distance from campfires, pools, horseback riding, and the boat to Magic Kingdom. It’s a great fit for families who want more room, more outdoor time, and a slower pace than a typical hotel room. If you have little ones who love being outside — or grown-ups who just want to sit on the porch with coffee in the morning — this is the place.
The Cabins feel like a Disney summer camp for the whole family. Rent a golf cart, slow down, and enjoy the resort itself — it’s a destination, not just a place to sleep.
Finding Your Way Around
Fort Wilderness is huge — it’s organized into loops, with internal bus service and two main hub areas you’ll get to know quickly.
The campground is laid out as a series of numbered loops connected by winding wooded roads. The DVC cabin loops are grouped together and have their own bus stops. You’ll spend most of your time at the resort moving between two hub areas: the Settlement (near the marina and the boat to Magic Kingdom) and the Meadow (home to the main feature pool, campfire site, and a trading post).
Internal buses run continuously between the cabin loops, the Settlement, the Meadow, and the main outpost where the park buses pick up. It works — but the resort is large enough that most guests rent a golf cart, and once you’ve tried one you’ll see why.
Rent a golf cart for at least part of your stay. Getting from your cabin to the campfire, pool, or main bus loop is so much faster — and honestly half the fun of staying at Fort Wilderness.
Room Sizes & Layout
Each cabin is a freestanding one-bedroom that sleeps up to six — a kitchen, full living area, bedroom, and a covered porch outside.

All cabins are the same one-bedroom layout — there are no studio or two-bedroom options here. If you need more space, the cabins sleeping six (plus a baby in a crib) is the maximum.
Kitchen & Laundry
A full kitchen makes the cabins one of the most family-friendly DVC stays — perfect for breakfast in pajamas or saving on meals.
What’s in the Kitchen
The kitchen comes stocked with everything you need to cook a real meal: sink, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, plates, cups, silverware, a frying pan, a sauce pan, and cooking utensils.
At check-in you’ll find a small starter set of cleaning supplies: one roll of paper towels, one dishwasher tablet, a travel-size bottle of dishwashing soap, and a sponge. Plan to bring or buy anything else you’ll need for a longer stay.
Laundry
There is no laundry in the cabin. Fort Wilderness has free laundry rooms located throughout the campground that any guest can use.
Order groceries through a delivery service before you arrive. Stock the fridge for breakfasts and snacks — it pays for itself fast at Disney prices, and you’ll love having coffee and cereal right on the porch.
Activity Highlights
Fort Wilderness has more on-site activities than just about any other Disney resort — you could spend a full day without ever leaving.
Pools & Splash Pads
The Meadow Swimmin’ Pool is the main feature pool, with a waterslide, a hot tub, and a kids’ splash area. The Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool is smaller and quieter — great if you want to swim without the crowd. Both pools are walk-up access for cabin guests, and there are pool snack options nearby.
Movie Under the Stars
Every night Fort Wilderness shows a free Disney movie outdoors near the campfire site. Bring a blanket or a low chair, grab snacks, and stake out a spot early on busy nights. The movie typically starts shortly after sunset, right after the campfire sing-along ends.
Campfire and S’mores
Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-Along happens nightly at the campfire site — free for all Disney resort guests. Chip and Dale make appearances, there’s live music, and you can buy s’mores kits at the nearby trading post. It’s one of the most underrated things at Disney World and a must-do at least once during your stay.
Don’t miss the other Fort Wilderness extras: horseback rides at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch, pony rides for little kids, archery, hayrides, bike and boat rentals, fishing, and walking trails. Many of these are seasonal or require advance reservations — check the My Disney Experience app once your trip is booked.
Transportation
Buses to all four parks, a boat to Magic Kingdom, and an internal bus that keeps you moving around the campground.
All four parks are reached by Disney buses, which pick up from the main Outpost area of Fort Wilderness. The internal bus system runs between the cabin loops, the Settlement, the Meadow, and the Outpost — so you’ll usually hop on the internal bus first, then transfer to your park bus. You can check estimated bus times under “My Resort” on the My Disney Experience app.
For Magic Kingdom, the easiest option is the boat from the Fort Wilderness marina at the Settlement. It’s a scenic ride across Bay Lake and drops you right at the Magic Kingdom gates. Boats also connect to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
Buses start arriving at the parks roughly an hour before park opening. If you want early-entry time on the rides, plan to be at the bus stop earlier than you think — and remember Fort Wilderness is large, so build in time for the internal bus transfer too.

No Tax or Resort Fees
These are included when you rent DVC — no surprise charges added at checkout.
Early Entry
You’re given entry into each park 30 minutes before official park opening. Plan to be at the park about an hour before — many times they’ll let you on rides early.
No Parking Fee
Disney doesn’t charge for parking for hotel guests, both at the parks and at the hotel.
Late Night Entry
Usually happens twice a week. These late hours are only for deluxe hotel guests and take place after the park closes — rides tend to be walk-on.
Transportation
Free transportation to and from all four parks every day, plus Disney Springs.
7 AM Individual Lightning Lane
You’re given priority access for ILL rides such as Cosmic Rewind, Rise of the Resistance, and Tron.
Dining at 60 Days
You can make all your dining reservations 60 days before you check in — and you can walk in to use them.
