Chase Sapphire and Disney Travel

When you are starting out using credit card points for Disney travel (or any travel in general), we almost always recommend the Chase Sapphire Preferred as your first card.  Here is why.

Chase Sapphire Basics

This card is a basic travel card, with an annual fee of $95 a year.  It’s also a must as it transfers well to many travel partners. You can combine chase points from other cards like business cards onto this  account to transfer and use more effectively.

The Offer right now

Earn 100,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. This is an elevated offer we haven’t seen in over 5 years.

How to earn points

The card can earn 5 points per dollar on travel booked through the Chase Travel portal, 3 points per dollar on  both dining and some streaming services, 3 points per dollar on online grocery purchases (sadly this doesn’t include Target, Walmart and Costco), 2 points per dollar on other travel purchases, and 1 point per dollar on all other eligible purchases.

How We use the Sapphire for Disney Travel

I like to use chase points for a couple of things. 1- I use them for airlines to fly my family to Disney parks. I always compare what the airline would charge me by transferring points vs using the travel portal. When it comes to hotels- we like to use these type of points to stay at either the Hyatt house walking distance of Disneyland (I transfer them to a free world of Hyatt account) or stays at Hyatt inside of the airport at MCO in Orlando.

You can also use them for Marriott stays, and they are especially great for the Marriott owned hotels at Disney World- the Swan, Dolphin, and Reserve. I find 9/10 its a better deal to use chase portal to book these hotels vs booking it through transferring to Marriott’s rewards program.

Our favorite Hyatt’s at Both Disneyland and Disney World

What about tickets?

Sometimes you can find Disneyland Tickets for sale in the travel portal of Chase, but they are not a good use of these versatile travel points.
