Disneyland’s new DVC tower

Disneyland Hotel- DVC tower

I was able to stay at the brand new Disney Vacation Club resort hotel this past weekend on a girls trip, the Disneyland Villas. Before this tower at the Disneyland hotel, Disney Vacation Club only had rooms at the Grand Californian at Disneyland. This is addition is great because now you can rent DVC points to stay at this hotel for 40-50% off the cash rate price at more than one place on-property at Disneyland!

The Location

The Disneyland DVC tower is at the end of Downtown Disney and is part of the Disneyland hotel. This is great for those with little ones who need to take mid-afternoon break at the hotel. The walk is less than 10 minutes from the gates. You can even take the monorail from tomorrowland inside of Disneyland and it will drop you off near the hotel in downtown Disney. This  monorail is right after Disneyland hotel’s own security checkpoint. We loved using the monorail for early morning access since you can get in before those staying off property who are waiting to rope drop are entering through the main gates (I’ll explain this later on).

You check in at the regular Disneyland hotel lobby and would let them know you are staying the Disneyland DVC villas.

The Amenities

You can use all of Disneyland hotel amenities (pool, restaurants, etc) when you stay at the DVC tower. There are multiple pools on property. The DVC tower has its own pool and bar (which recently just opened this week). The main Disneyland hotel pool has a fun monorail themed slide and a big Disneyland sign! When you stay with DVC you can access all the pools with both the DVC tower as well as the Disneyland main pools.

There are also restaurants on property including goofy’s kitchen, a character buffet with classic characters such as goofy. Other dining options include Trader Sam’s tiki bar with the famous rum and dole whip adult offerings and a coffee shop.

The Room

Each room has a fun theme based off a Disney classics. We were in a room based off of Princess and the Frog. Our headboards lit up and had beautiful drawings of the bayou, Tiana, and her friends.The theming of the hotel is pretty modern and clean.

Each room has a queen as well as a pull down trundle bed that is also a queen. I love Disney’s new trundle beds because they don’t have a big bar like a pull out couch would have! I had a friend sleep on the bed and she said it was very comfortable.

The Perks

One of the biggest perks when you stay on property is that you get early entry into both parks 30 minutes before everyone else. Something important to note is that not every part of the park you are going into will be available at early entry. For example, Disneyland has two lands open for early park entry currently: Tomorrowland and fantasyland. You will notice that some of the more popular rides aren’t in these lands such as Rise of the Resistance. They actually have the gates up if you walk over that way from fantasyland. We waited with the rest of the rope droppers until 8 AM to run to the ride. Which was down so it didn’t matter anyway (this ride at disneyland breaks down a high amount of times).

In California Adventure you can ride one of the following: Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout, Incredicoaster, The Little Mermaid, Maters junkyard, Web slingers, Monster Inc, or Soaring. Many in DCA will run and get in line for Cars lands Radiator Springs to open.

 

Final Thoughts

Overall I would stay at this hotel again! I think between this DVC hotel or the Grand Californian (if $$ wasn’t that much different) I would pick the grand for proximity to DCA. However, DVC studios at the Disneyland tower are low with the low end being 10 points a night. Keep in mind the only DVC points you can use there are from owners who either own direct points for Disney or they own at the Disneyland tower itself resell.
