DVC Owners: Here’s Why Renting Your Points Beats Using Them for a Cruise
How Disney Vacation Club Exchange Works
If you have ever tried to book a Disney Cruise using your DVC points, you have probably noticed something surprising. The math does not add up in your favor. While a Disney Cruise is packed with magic, using your points to pay for it usually means getting far less value than if you rented those same points for cash and booked the cruise directly. Renting your points gives you the flexibility to turn your vacation currency into real spending power, often saving you hundreds or even thousands while still enjoying the same Disney experience. In this post, we will break down the numbers, compare real examples, and show you how renting your DVC points can make your next Disney Cruise an even smarter adventure.
How Disney Vacation Club Exchange Works
How many points are a cruise?
Each cruise is set person with double occupancy required. You can view all of the point charts for Disney cruise here. But when you do the math, it’s a horrible use of your points! Let’s show you one of the many, many points charts that DVC has (there is one for each ship, each destination and then by time of year to make it so complicated).

How much are you really paying?
- Bahamas for 3 nights on the Fantasy in an Interior room. DVC was 240 points to book.
- Or 5 nights on the Dream for the same cabin has a range depending on the dates of 322 points to a high of 486!!!
- Caribbean cruise for 5 nights on the brand new destiny ranged between 354 to 556 in an ocean view cabin.
- Verandah cabin for 7 nights on the dream in Europe for 7 nights was around 946 points.
What if you paid cash instead?
- If you look up these same cruises here are the cash rates:
- 3 nights interior is $3008
- 5 nights interior is $3226
- 5 night oceanview is $4843
- 7 night verandah is $8062
