Housekeeping (Mousekeeping) and Disney Vacation Club

Mousekeeping

Mousekeeping is the adorable term Disney uses for Housekeeping staff. When you stay for cash at a Disney Resort, you get mousekeeping every other day. Because Disney Vacation Club (DVC) is a timeshare, cleaning service is slightly different.

Disney vacation club

If you are staying at a DVC resort using Disney Vacation Points, either with your own or rented DVC points for your stay, you will receive Mousekeeping on the 4th and 8th day of your stay.

During these days, you will receive what Disney considers to be light housekeeping. Light housekeeping is:

  • removal of trash and used towels
  • replenishment of towels
  • replacing or filling other amenities (soap, shampoo, dish soap etc.) throughout the room and bathroom
  • cleaning of the vanity and surfaces including kitchen counters
  • vacuuming- In a villa (1 bedroom or larger), there will also be a vacuum for  those spilled goldfish crackers your toddler spilled all over the floor. So no worries if that happens and you don’t want to live with that for the next two days!

Opting out of Mousekeeping/Safety Checks

If you aren’t comfortable with the idea of Mousekeeping to clean at all, this service can be declined for the duration of your stay. However, Disney Cast Members will still be required to enter your room occasionally throughout your stay in order to perform safety checks. These are not negotiable and are for the safety of all guests on property.  Almost all hotel chains now have the same policy.

These safety checks would be a quick look to make sure the safety of other guests (think of the vegas shooting).  These visits are during the day, when most guests are at the park.  It is a very quick check in, so don’t worry that someone is rummaging around in your room.

During these daily checks, you can set any trash that you want removed by the front door and they will empty them for you, or you can set a bag outside your door and Mousekeeping will take it.  We promise you won’t have to worry about  trash smells in your villas for days at a time.

Requests from mousekeeping

You can also ask for extra towels or sheets/blankets for the sofa bed if needed, just make sure to tip any mousekeeping cast members that help you and bring items to your room.

One of the best items to request from mousekeeping is a foam topper for the sofa bed.  Believe us, when we tell you that it can make a world of difference for anyone who has had to be the luck of the draw and sleep on the sofa bed.

Disney Point Gal tip

If you want to make the sofa bed even more snooze worthy, open up the bed, and take the whole mattress off.  Then close up the frame back into the couch.  Put the mattress on the floor with the foam topper on. It’s a much better situation (it’s that bar in the back that will get ya!). Let’s hope that as each resort gets a renovation, they will just give up sofa beds and get murphy beds instead. (insert happy cheer!)

Split stays

A nice clean room is also one of the reason we love Split stays and so that might be an option too! We tend to stay at two resorts in a week, and that means on the third day we get a new clean room.
