Where to rent DVC points (part 1)

Disney Vacation Club (DVC for short) is where individuals own a portion of a DVC resort. When you purchase DVC, you actually purchase a certain amount of “vacation points” that you can use at your DVC “home resort”. If you are a DVC member you are given these points to use on a yearly basis. Owners have priority for reservations and can make them at their home resort at 11 months, 7 months for other DVC resorts.

Each hotel location and the type of room will vary in how much they cost in “points” per night. These room types range from a studio (a simple hotel room) at 9 points per night at somewhere like Old Key West in September to a 3 bedroom grand villa at the Grand Floridian which has 2800 square ft and will run you a whopping 195 points per night over Christmas. We will cover this later in our series.

Locations to rent DVC points

A great place to start when looking into renting DVC points is with a company such as Davids Vacation Club Rentals. This company works as a middle man for individuals who don’t need/want their vacation club points this year and are looking to rent them. For a site like David Rental it will cost you roughly $21 dollars a point ($22 if you want to book something 7+ months out). You pay a deposit ($133) and they try to match you with an owner. If they can’t find points for your stay, they will refund you the deposit. David Rental will also send you a list of available options if your first choice isn’t available. They also have insurance you can purchase in case something goes wrong. Davids rental also can confirm that the DVC renter owns the points.

One of the things we love on their site is the Cost calculator. It will tell you how much it will cost you for your vacation with DVC points. This allows you to compare to the Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani, etc direct site. Here is an example from their site. This would be a 6 night stay for a couple of the hotels at Disney world in February:

Or if you wanted to go to Aulani in Hawaii here is the example for Feb.

To compare, the entire stay at animal kingdom 1 bedroom would cost you 2,100 dollars if you rent DVC points. In comparison, renting direct from Disney would cost you 4,025 dollars (805 a night)!!!!

There are a couple of other sites that allow you to rent DVC points. But for many of the DVC members we know, they prefer David’s rental.

If you want to save even more money and pay less than $19 dollars a point, there is another option as well which we will cover in part 2, Renting DVC direct from owners”.
