Southwest Credit Card

One of our favorite credit cards is having a major sign-on bonus right now. If planned right, you could travel to Disney multiple times just using credit card points. Here is a step by step how:

1. Sign up and apply for a Southwest Credit Card by 12/7/21 in order to qualify for the promotion right now. We would suggest if this is your first card to start with the lowest annual fee ($65 a year). To us this is worth it for how many perks we get from the sign-up promotion. You can cancel the card (we suggest waiting at least a year). If you have a family member who has the card have them refer you. Then you get even more points!
2. Spend the amount needed for the promotion. You will need to spend $2,000 in the first 3 months in order to get 50,000 points. Then an additional 12,000 in 12 months to get the other 50,000 points.
3. Just spending this alone will get you 115,000 points (100,000 + the 15,000 from what you spent) .
4. If you spend an additional 10,000 dollars through the year (so spend roughly 2,000 a month) you can qualify for what is called a companion pass. You need to have earned 125,000 points in a calendar year to qualify for companion pass through Southwest. Companion pass is the ability to have a person travel with you for an entire year for free.
5. We suggest you apply and get the card late November/early December. Don’t start using the card until your December statement posts. this is because you need to early the 125,000 points in the same year so you will want your points to start in January.
6. Once your December statement hits and you start spending, you will want to earn the pass as soon possible. This is because you get companion pass once you hit 125,000 plus another year. Let’s say you earn 125,000 points by July. You will get the companion pass from July-December plus the next year.
7. Let’s say you followed all of this and got 125,000 points. Now is the fun part!

Where to go?

125,000 points you could fly 6-7 round trip flights to Disney World out of Las Vegas on points + 1 person as a companion.

125,000 points you could fly 24 round trip flights to LAX to go to Disneyland for free not including your companion flying with you.

Or if you are feeling tropical vibes, You can fly from Phoenix to Oahu with 7 roundtrip tickets + your companion fare in Feb of 2022.

 

How to use your points:

A common question is if you can use your points while earning companion pass. You don’t need to wait until you have 125,000 points sitting in your account! They just want you to earn that amount in a calendar year. So you could take a trip with your 50,000 points and keep accruing points.

Go onto the Southwest website and change it to “points” in the right hand corner. Then put in the dates and location you want to go. (Hint at the bottom you will see low fare calendar.. if you are flexible it will show you the lowest point times to fly).
