What is Disney Vacation Club (DVC)?
What is DVC?
DVC is the acronym widely used in the Disney Community. DVC refers to the Disney’s Vacation Club program. It’s basically Disney’s version of a timeshare, but instead of purchasing a specific week, you purchase a portion of the resort in “points“. DVC allows individuals to be part-owner of Disney resorts. You as a member have an upfront cost for a certain amount of “points” each year and yearly dues. Points are the currency that you use to make reservations as a member.
Each resort has a set number of points that Disney can sell. They can not oversell a resort. Each resort also has a expiration date for those contracts. They range from 2042- 2070.These resort contracts expire in 2042: Old key west, Beach Club, Boardwalk, Boulder Ridge, Vero Beach, and Hilton Head. Riviera is the longest contract (new contracts are usually 50 yrs) and expires in 2070. Yearly dues also vary between resorts. You can find the current yearly due amount here.
When you purchase a contract, it will also have a “use year” associated with the contract. This is the month each year that they receive their points. As an example, if you have a June use year, then they can use their points for reservations from June 1- May 31 of each year.
We have been a member since 2018 and currently own points at Animal Kingdom Lodge,Grand Floridian, Saratoga, and Aulani resorts. I have also stayed at 11 of the Disney World properties, Aulani and Vero Beach, using my own DVC points and/or points I rented from another DVC member.
Our current amount of points allows us to stay about 16 nights off-season in a studio at Kidani Village at Animal Kingdom Lodge. These rooms cost me roughly about $110-160 dollars a night depending on the time of year/season. If you booked from Disney directly, a travel agent, etc. they would be much higher (roughly $450 during off season or $800 during christmas week).
We are also DVC brokers which means we work with owners (like ourselves) who don’t plan to use their points for the year and would rather sell them to someone else.
