What codes as “travel” at Disney?
What you can use it for on Disney TripsĀ
There are multiple cards right now that “code” as travel and allow you to cover your travel purchases for Disney. Venture,Venture X, and Aeroplan Card are unique that they allow you to use your points to cover any travel related expenses (they must code on a card as travel) that code on your card as travel. However, you have to make sure that the cards code as travel on a credit card. Spoiler- some things that are travel actually don’t!
Here are all the ways to cover your expenses
Walt Disney World Parks
- Rent DVC. Our website codes as travel, allowing you to cover your resort stay with these type of cards. Renting DVC usually will save you 40% or more off the listed price! To rent from us put in a quote.
- Buy your tickets from a 3rd party vendor like the company,Ā undercover tourist. You can then use the points you earn to cover the cost of tickets. Make sure if you want to use these types of points to not buy just your tickets direct from Disney. This codes as entertainment not travel.
- You can also use venture miles/aeroplan points to cover food cost if staying on property. Just use a magic band throughout the park to charge items to your room. This then codes them as travel. The following are all things we have used miles on:
- Quick service meals (can’t mobile order- Must be ordered in person)
- Sit down dining
- Souvenirs
- refillable cups
- Snack carts
- Character Meals
- You can book direct hotels with Disney website or Disney travel agent.
- If buying a whole package from a travel agent, you can use Venture miles towards the total cost by using the ācover travel purchases featureā. This means a travel agent package (tickets + hotels) counts towards travel.
- Rent a rental car
- Flights booked with an airline also will code as travel. If it is cheaper to pay the cash rate on points vs transferring points to an airline partner.
- Parking at most airports as well as ubers/lyfts will code as travel. I will say when it comes to Disney World I have found lyft to be cheaper 99% of the time.
DisneylandĀ
- Buy your tickets from a 3rd party vendor like the company,Ā undercover tourist. You can then use the points you earn to erase cost of tickets
- If staying on property, charge items to your room using the barcode in the app. Just hold it up for the cast member to scan. This is a harder way to do it vs WDW (some Disneyland cast members have issues/didn’t know how to do it)

Renting DVC also will cover the cost of parking (which is 40 dollars a day) for free.- Have the card be your āincidental cardā on your room. You can then charge the following to your room and use miles to cover purchases. You can use either your room key or a magic band.
- Character dining at Ulua
- Mickey snow cones
- You can charge your cabana rental to your room. DVC members (not renters) get a 10% off discount on cabanas. This also includes any food/drinks you have while using the cabana.
- Excursions charged to your card
- Renters like paddle boards and scuba gear
- Souvenirs in the shop
- Spa treatments
- Buying the hotel room directly from Disney will code as travel allowing you to cover it with venture miles.
- Find a cheap cash rate on a flight? You can also use the points towards flight or airline fees.
- Tour websites like viator will code as travel making it easier to cover fun excursions.

Disney CruisesĀ
To cover a cruise itself with one of these cards . Then you can use the cover travel purchases feature. You can also update your payment for cruises. So each family member could open a venture card, earn the sign up bonus, and pay for their portion of the cruise. We like using disney travel agents for cruises because they do not cost you anything but can update this information for you as you go!

Venture Cards
This is the swiss army knife for beginners for Disney. If you spend more than $300 dollars a year on travel.. I would highly suggest getting the venture X card. Although it has a higher annual fee ($395) it comes with a $300 dollar travel credit to their portal and 10,000 anniversary points (worth a minimum of $100 dollars). Making you $5 dollars each year on the card. It comes with a lot of perks that you can find are full break down here. If that is too steep of an annual fee a venture card has the same way to use points without all the features. I like the venture x business card for those with more than one owner because you can easily transfer the points between anyone... it doesnt have to be a member of your household. You could split expenses!
Aeroplan Card
Aeroplan- You might wonder why in the world I would suggest a canadian airline card. Currently it has a unique feature that allows you to cover a certain amount of purchases a year (2,500 a year) at a 1.25 rate (higher than the venture card). so it might be worth adding to your group. I wouldn't wait to get it because the feature is scheduled to go away Dec. 2025 (although they have extended it multiple times)
