Questions to ask yourself
- Do I plan on exploring the island?

- Will I stay at Aulani for my whole trip, or go for a few days and move to another area of the island?
- Do I like to have everything planned beforehand?
Our Favorite Tips for Visiting Aulani
Car rental
The nice part of renting a car for your trip to Aulani, is that it gives you the freedom to come and go for other day trips or a quick trip to a store. The downside is that car rentals in Hawaii can be PRICEY. We highly recommend looking at TOURO.COM (think of it as the airbnb of car rentals), as an alternative to rental car companies. When you rent someone’s car, they will bring it to you at the airport and it is usually substantially less than a big rental car company.
But even if you just want to rent a car for a day or two, there is also a car rental place at the convention center attached to Aulani which is really convenient if you think you are mostly staying at the resort but have a day trip planned in the middle.

Parking
If you do decide to rent a car, and you rent Disney Vacation Club (DVC) from an owner one of the best benefits is FREE parking for your entire stay. Renting a two bedroom with 9 guests? No worries- each reservation can park up to two cars on for free. There is a covered parking garage at the resort for parking and you use your room key to get access.

Airport shuttle
But what if you are going from the airport to Aulani and plant yourself at the resort? Maybe you’ve visited Oahu many times and so you want a full Disney immersive experience at the resort and all the activities. If this is the case maybe taking an airport shuttle is right for you. This is the shuttle that Disney partners with so they have been vetted which is nice- you know they are going to be reliable.
Price is $25 each way per person, $10 per lap child (under 2), and they will meet you at the airport when you arrive.
Drawback is that they leave the resort only once an hour (on the :15) so you might have to exit earlier than you thought to go back to the airport.
Uber
The last couple of times we stayed at Aulani, it was just two of us and we just used Uber to grab a ride share to Aulani and back to the airport and it was around $50 each way. But as of late, it seems like the price has skyrocketed and when I checked a few times this week, it was over $100 one way! Lesson- it might be worth it to book the shuttle early instead!
How to use points
You have some choices if you want to use points to help with car rental and uber.
Here are some ideas:
- Use Capital One miles and erase a car rental
- Use Capital One Venture X $300 travel credit
- Book it in a travel portal of your favorite credit card (Chase, Amex, Capital One) travel portal.
- Use your monthly AMEX uber credit (Gold or Platinum Cards) to offset some of the cost of an uber
You can’t go wrong with Aulani airport shuttle options, all of them lead you to an amazing vacation with Disney flare!
